AIMSweb® by Pearson
AIMSweb (Academic Improvement Measurement System based on the web) is an assessment used by CWCS as part of the CWCS Response to Instruction (RtI) program. At the foundation of AIMSweb is general outcome measurement, a form of curriculum-based measurement (CBM), used for universal screening and progress monitoring.This form of brief assessment measures overall performance of key foundational skills at each grade level (skills in grades 2-8) and draws upon decades of scientific research that demonstrates both its versatility to provide accurate prediction of reading and math achievement as well as its sensitivity to growth. Aimsweb is not curriculum specific. It is a scientifically based practice that is supported by significant research that is an integral part of effective student progress monitoring. When progress monitoring is implemented correctly, the benefits are great for everyone involved. Some benefits include:
- accelerated learning because students are receiving more appropriate instruction;
- more informed instructional decisions;
- documentation of student progress for accountability purposes;
- more efficient communication with families and other professionals about students' progress;
- higher expectations for students; and
- fewer Special Education referrals.
Overall, the use of progress monitoring results in more efficient and appropriately targeted instructional techniques and goals, which together, move all students to faster attainment of important standards of achievement.
