EE Individualized Access (Portfolio Review)
Assignments for Performing Arts (Dance, Theater, or Music)
Five assignments will be collected for each student. The 5th assignment is a final exam or project. The EE will give specific instructions about submitting the final exam/project before the end of each semester.
The assignments should reflect the student's understanding of the key concepts of the course of study. The grades on these 5 assignments will comprise a significant portion of the student's overall grade. (Suggested grading policy: 50% ES Progress Report; 25% Portfolio; 25% Final Exam or Project)
Unacceptable portfolio samples include: a copy of sheet music, picture of a student at a performance, picture of student playing instrument, or on stage without any details or description. (Use the journal format to make this an acceptable sample).
- Attend a live musical, theatre, or dance performance, and complete a critique. The descriptive critique should include: Name of performance, location, date, describe your experience using appropriate dance, music, theatrical vocabulary to identify the elements of the production or event, and the emotional and expressive qualities of the performance.
- Corrected chapter or unit assessment
- Participate in a performance and write a descriptive critique regarding the experience. This should include: Name of performance, location, date, describe your experience using appropriate music vocabulary to identify the elements of the musical production or event, and the emotional and expressive qualities of the performance. (In other words, how did you prepare and present yourself in the performance).
- Journal write could include: Documented lessons, and practice time during the semester. Documentation should include class name, date, and number of hours attended and music, dance or theatre and concepts learned at each class or lesson.
- Research paper on a specific time period for music, dance, or theatre. Please have the topic approved by your ES and EE prior to beginning this assignment.
- Create a historical timeline of a musical, theatrical, or dance period - The timeline should give the audience a clear picture of the growth for this period and include at least 10 famous musicians, composers, dancers, producers, or writers and their significance they contributed. Pictures from the internet are OK. Please have the topic approved by your ES and EE prior to beginning this assignment.
- Create a collage using magazine photos on a 9" X 12" piece of paper. This collage can be what the performing arts means to you. The whole piece of paper needs to be covered with pictures, and words. On the back of the collage, describe in your own voice and how you see yourself using the skills learned in the future.
- Research careers in the field of your study and type a one page description of the areas that may interest you including salary, prerequisites, competitive level, how many jobs are available, schooling needed. This can include college choices that offer this program
- Music should include music theory work for one of the semesters
